Connecticut shore: Mystic + Groton + New London

On a Friday afternoon, Sharon + I rode from Mystic thru Groton to New London in southeast Connecticut. I thought it was one of the nicest sections of the CT shore I've ridden, some nice views out over the water at several points, also some variety going by factories in Groton. The big I-95 bridge over the Thames River between Groton + New London had a ridable sidewalk on its north side. A little north of the bridge it was easy to ride to the submarine museum. Ken also rode inland to make it a loop back to Mystic thru Center Groton and Old Mystic.

I drove some roads along the shoreline of southeast Rhode Island and east into Massachusetts, from Tiverton and Little Compton in RI to Westport and Dartmouth in MA. (I was driving because it rainy and windy). I'd say it's the best seacoast riding I've found so far in the northeast USA. I liked it better than Cape Cod or most of the Connecticut shore or most of north shore of Long Island or the northern New Jersey coast. I saw several kinds of painted route markings on the road, so I guess it's a well-known bicycling route.
