Mendelpass We got up here to Mendelpass by "cheating": riding up the cablecar from Kaltern / Caldaro. It was the first lift up on a midweek day, and they had space, so they let us bring our bike on. (? perhaps there's a but up to Mendelpass from Bozen or Kaltern ?). Another time I pedaled up the road from Kaltern to here -- not real steep, but long. Waypoint Mendel pass Kaltern Caldaro Fondo Brez Arsio Cloz Romallo Revo Santa Giustina Cles Tuenno Terres Flavon Denno Moncovo Dermulo Toss Ton Spormaggiore Rocchetta what we remember doing here in 2005: Just after merging into the new main highway, see sign for Rocchetta, just above two half-circle traffic lanes with a parking area in the middle. Exit left from the main highway onto the half-circle with signs for “Cles” + “Passo di Tonale”. Just before the end of that half-circle, look straight across the northwest-bound traffic lanes and see the single-lane road going into the woods. Waypoint This single-lane road started rough + dirt, soon got better. Sometimes it's called "old SP29" alternate: to save a little distance, but miss a chance to ride thru a pretty vineyard, instead continue straight here. (if brought a snack with you, this could be a nice quiet spot for a picnic) Mezzolombardo alternate: to connect with bike path going southeast toward the Adige river, instead turn right here, and after a very short ways across the creek, turn left onto the bike path - (not checked by us ever). Waypoint alternate: if in a hurry, could instead continue straight here. Mezzocorona last time here we had gelato -- and the exterior dome and roof of the cathedral of Mezzocorona are remarkably beautiful.
