section of
NYC to Albany one-way route

  • Where:  From the west end of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge (also known as the Hamilton Fish Bridge) north up the West side of the river, through Orange county and into Ulster county.   Then across the Mid-Hudson Bridge (also known as the Franklin D. Roosevelt bridge) to the East side and the city of Poughkeepsie.

  • 22 miles, hilly.

This one-way route along the west side of the Hudson River is derived from a Loop route that goes on both sides of the river.  For more information and reports, check the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge / Mid-Hudson Bridge Loop

  • Highlights:   Quiet roads along the river on the way to Marlboro, the view from Ridge Road over the whole valley, the riding through classic apple orchard country, including the apple distributors in Milton, and the possibility of side trips to vineyards.

  • Characteristics:  Lots of quiet roads, but some busy sections.  Some significant hills, and lots of smaller ups and downs.

  • Maps:  You should have detailed road maps of Orange and Ulster counties to do this route (see Maps).
