If the way thru
the West Point campus is closed to bicycling, this could be an alternative:
After 0.9Mi on Rt 9W, turn sharp L (West) onto Firefighter's Memorial Drive,
by a convenience store/gas
station on the left side, just after church on right (this comes after
an earlier turn for Firefighter's).
Go 0.3Mi, then BR on Mine Rd 5.0Mi (up a steep hill, perhaps some limited visibility
around some curves). T-R on Rt 293 North 3.3Mi.
Follow signs thru intersections to pass under Rt 9W and get on Rt 218 North / Old Storm King
Highway. Go 1.2Mi, to rejoin main route at Washington Gate (mile 26.1).
Adds about 3.5Mi and 500 vertical feet to route. (not checked by us
since 1996) Mine Rd is sometimes closed -- can check in advance by calling the West Point USMA military police. |
