If the way through the West Point campus is closed to bicycles, this could be an alternative: After 0.9Mi on Rt 9W, turn sharp L (West) onto Firefighter's Memorial Drive, by a convenience store/gas station on the left side, just after church on right (this comes after an earlier turn for Firefighter's). Go 0.3Mi, then BR on Mine Rd 5.0Mi (up a steep hill, perhaps some limited visibility around some curves). T-R on Rt 293 North 3.3Mi. Follow signs thru intersections to pass under Rt 9W and get on Rt 218 North / Old Storm King Highway. Go 1.2Mi, to rejoin main route at Washington Gate (mile 26.1). Adds about 3.5Mi and 500 vertical feet to route. |
