Printed Guidebooks

for Bicycling in the Hudson Valley

25 Bicycle Tours in the Hudson Valley, by Howard Stone.
Backcountry Publications, Woodstock VT, 1996.
"scenic rides from Saratoga to Northern Westchester County"
Ken's comment:  Road routes, most in the range of 25-40  miles.
RIDE GUIDE Hudson Valley New Paltz to Staten Island, by Dan Goldfischer.
White Meadow Press, Warren, NJ, 1996.
Ken's comment:  Mostly road rides in the range of 25-50 miles.  Also four off-road rides.  Unique feature is the sizable number of routes in and around Westchester county.  You can sample a couple of the routes from the book from the Clearwater Revival bike directions page -- "Yorktown Heights to Croton Point" and "Peekskill to Croton Point".
25 Mountain Bike Tours in the Hudson Valley, by Peter Kick.
Backcountry Publications, Woodstock VT, 1996.
Ken's comment:  Many gentle car-free roads and trails, and a few more challenging tours.
The Catskills: A Bicycling Guide, by Jay Wenk and Pierre Menetrier.
Purple Mountain Press, Fleischmanns NY, 1999.
Ken's comment:  27 road routes from 8 to 98 miles, with rudimentary maps.
The Bicyclist's Guide to the Southern Berkshires, by Steve Lyons.
Freewheel Publications, Lenox MA, 1993.
Ken's comment:  25 road routes described with abundant local color -- in a region "just outside the boundaries of the Hudson Valley".
Short Bike Rides in Western Massachusetts, by Howard Stone.
The Globe Pequot Press, Old Saybrook, CT, 1997.
  "rides for the casual cyclist"
Ken's comment:  Includes several road routes in the Hudson river drainage, most in the 15-30 mile range.  Makes greater use of major high-traffic roads than most guidebooks or this Bike Hudson Valley website.  But major roads can have two advantages for casual riders:  less hills and simpler navigation.
