north toward the summit -- but that rock is not the summit -- and not the skier's route to the summit -- so instead I traverse east

roughly south from near the summit: Below foreground is the lower section of the normal Pic Blanc de Galibier ski route. Middle is the highway over the Col de Lautaret. High background mountains: Far left is Mt Pelvoux, then higher behind is the Barre des Ecrins (joined with the skiable Dome des Neige des Ecrins), to the right are the Meije and other peaks.
