summit -- so instead I traverse east

two other skier's tracks traversing further
east (and returning the same way). I tried that route a couple of
years ago, but then it wasn't working so I gave up and turned
around. On my way back that time I saw . . .

Blanc de Galibier ski route. Middle is the highway over the Col de
Lautaret. High background mountains: Far left is Mt Pelvoux, then
higher behind is the Barre des Ecrins (joined with the
skiable Dome
des Neige des Ecrins), to the right are the Meije and other peaks.
